An expansive view and good fishing will beckon you to Summit Lake State Park, near New Castle. More than 2,680 acres including a large lake await your visit. Facilities include 125 electric campsites, 3 boat ramps, a beach bathhouse and 2 large open shelters which can be reserved for family picnics and other events. Summit Lake has an excellent bird watching and wildlife observation area.

State park permits can be purchased at any of the state park property locations across Indiana. State park permits can also be ordered online by visiting the INDINIA ENTRANCE FEE web page.

Swimming
1. Summit Lake State Park in Indiana offers a designated swimming beach for visitors.
2. The park's 800-acre lake is perfect for cooling off during the summer months.
3. Lifeguards are not provided, so swimmers should exercise caution and swim at their own risk.
4. Swimming outside of the marked areas or after sunset is strictly prohibited by park rules.
5. Children must be supervised while swimming due to deep water and potential hazards near shorelines.
6. The sandy beach area provides space to sunbathe or build sandcastles when you're done with your swim.
7. Swimming facilities include restrooms, showers and changing rooms located nearby for convenience.
Boating
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. There is an 800-acre lake where guests can enjoy fishing, sailing and recreational boating activities. Motorized boats are allowed but must adhere to the speed limit set at idle speed only (no wake). The park also provides boat rental services including paddleboats, rowboats and trolling motors. A public access ramp is available for those who bring their own watercrafts.
Fishing
Enjoy fishing in a 800-acre lake, home to largemouth bass, crappie and bluegill. Boat ramps are available for use. Ice-fishing is permitted during winter months when conditions allow it. A valid Indiana fishing license is required.

Summit Lake State Park offers numerous picnic areas with tables and grills. Some sites have shelters for larger groups.
Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can enjoy a 3-mile paved bike trail. Be aware, the terrain is relatively flat and easy-going.

The park's natural beauty offers an ideal backdrop for leisurely rides. However, always stay alert to wildlife crossings.

While biking is permitted on roads throughout the area, caution should be exercised due to occasional vehicular traffic.

No off-road or mountain biking trails are available within this location; stick strictly to designated paths only.

Always remember safety first: wear helmets and reflective gear especially during dusk hours when visibility may decrease significantly.

Remember that all cyclists must adhere strictly to posted rules regarding speed limits and right-of-way guidelines in order not compromise personal safety.

Lastly, ensure your bicycle equipment meets standard requirements before embarking on any ride - brakes functioning properly etc., as preventative measures against accidents.
Birding
The park offers over 100 bird species for viewing, including waterfowl and other wetland birds. Birdwatchers can explore various habitats such as open water, wetlands, old fields and mature hardwood forest. The site is also part of the Northern Cardinal Birding Trail with specific spots marked for optimal bird watching.

park review stars; one to five We camp there regularly. The sites are tidey. The bathrooms are clean. Shower water is HOT! The kids are able to ride there bikes around the campgroud without worry. Everyone is friendly. We take our small boat on the lake and fish. we have a great time. The only thing I dont like is all the goose poop.
