The 5,283-acre Nockamixon State Park surrounds the 1,450-acre Lake Nockamixon. The park?s forests and fields are a large green space in this rapidly developing area. In northern Bucks County, the park also serves Lehigh, Northampton and Philadelphia counties.
History of the Area
The name Nockamixon comes from the American Indian phrase ?nocha-miska-ing? which is Lenni Lenape for ?at the place of soft soil.? Several American Indian sites from the Lenni Lenape Tribe (Delaware) are documented in the park area.

Secretary of the Department of Forests and Water, Dr. Maurice K. Goddard, proposed the park in 1958. The park was developed with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers plan for development in the Delaware River Basin. Originally known as Tohickon State Park after the principal stream flowing into Lake Nockamixon, it was renamed Nockamixon State Park by the State Geographic Board in 1965. The park officially opened in December of 1973.
Cabins
Located on the south side of Lake Nockamixon, ten modern cabins are available for rentals throughout the year. Each cabin contains a furnished living area, kitchen/dining area, toilet/shower room, two or three bedrooms and are equipped with electric heat. One cabin is accessible.
Swimming
Swimming:

The swimming pool complex includes a one-half acre pool with two water slides and a children's shallow end with fountains, dressing rooms, first aid station and snack bar. The swimming pool is operated by a concession and an admission fee is charged. Seasonal passes are available. Weather permitting, the swimming pool is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day, unless otherwise posted.
Fishing
The park offers year-round fishing in its 1,450-acre lake. Anglers can catch walleye, pickerel, carp and various bass species. There are also catfish and panfish like crappie or perch available for catching. Boating is permitted with restrictions on motor size to protect the fish population.

Picnicking
Nockamixon State Park offers numerous picnic areas with tables, grills and restrooms. Some spots are reservable for group picnics.
Bicycling
In this park, biking is a popular activity with over 10 miles of trails available. Be cautious on uneven terrain.

The paved bike trail stretches for six miles and offers scenic views. Always wear safety gear while riding.

Mountain bikers can explore the challenging single-track Free Ride Trail but should be wary due to its technical nature.

Bike rentals are offered seasonally at the marina concession stand; however, availability may vary so plan accordingly.

Remember that all cyclists under age 12 must wear helmets as per state law - it's crucial for your safety!

During winter months, some paths might not be accessible or safe due to snowfall or icy conditions.

Please respect other users by maintaining appropriate speed and giving way when necessary - everyone's enjoyment matters!

Lastly, always check local weather forecasts before planning any outdoor activities including cycling trips in order to avoid potential hazards.
Nature Programs
The park offers environmental education and interpretive programs which explore a wide variety of ecological and environmental topics.

School group programming for all grade levels and teacher workshops can be arranged. Scout, church, civic and private groups can also arrange for special programs. Advanced scheduling for group programming is required.

All programs are available from April to October. For more information, contact the environmental education specialist at the park office.
Birding
The park offers diverse birding opportunities with over 250 species recorded. It's a hotspot for migratory birds. Birdwatchers can explore various habitats including forests, meadows and the lake area. The Haycock Run watershed is particularly popular among enthusiasts due to its variety of avian life.
