Lovewell State Park is a haven for outdoors lovers who are looking for variety. Located off the beaten track in northern Jewell County, Lovewell offers an enticing blend of camping, fishing, wildlife watching, and special events.

The park features excellent shade and 23 full utility, 13 water/electric, 82 electric only, and 306 primitive campsites, as well as six cabins. Designated electrical sites may be reserved, and Bluebird Primitive Campground is reservable for camping groups. Three shower/toilet buildings, three vault toilets, year-round freeze proof water hydrants and two trailer dump stations are centrally located in the park.

A historic limestone school hosts summer church services, and an archery range is located north of the Cottonwood shower building. The Pioneer day-use area features a playground, sand volleyball, softball diamond, and horse shoe pits. Two basketball courts are located west of the marina. The Southwinds Swimming Beach offers plenty of sun and shade. Picnic facilities are available throughout the dayuse areas, as well as a large log group shelter that can be reserved.

Lovewell hosts several annual special events, including a Kids Fishing Derby in early June, fireworks and sand castle contest in July, Lovewell Fun Day in August, and various other special events and fishing tournaments throughout the year.

The 2,900-acre Lovewell Reservoir is popular with anglers. The south shore features high bluffs that block summer winds. The 2,200- acre Lovewell Wildlife Area invites hunters, wildlife watchers, and other wildlife enthusiasts to experience a variety of well-managed habitats.
Swimming
1. Lovewell State Park offers a designated swimming beach for visitors.
2. The park's large reservoir provides ample space for open water swimming.
3. Swimming is allowed during daylight hours only, from sunrise to sunset.
4. Lifeguards are not provided; swimmers swim at their own risk in the lake area.
5. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult while swimming or near the water areas of the park.
6. The sandy beach makes it comfortable and safe for kids to play and swim around.
7. Swimming aids such as floaties, life jackets etc. , can be used but should meet US Coast Guard standards.
8. Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited on beaches or anywhere within 50 feet of any body of water in Kansas state parks including Lovewell's.

Boating
The park offers a wide range of boating options. There are six boat ramps available for use, three on the south shore and three on the north shore. The marina provides 16 slips for rent during summer months along with fuel service and minor repair work facilities to ensure smooth sailing experiences. In addition, there is also an option to hire pontoon boats from Memorial Day through Labor Day at Marina Cove area which can accommodate up to eight people per vessel.

Lovewell State Park offers numerous picnic areas with tables, grills and shelters. Some spots overlook the lake for scenic picnicking.
Bicycling
In this Kansas location, biking opportunities abound with trails suitable for all skill levels. However, caution is advised.

The park offers a 1-mile trail ideal for beginners and casual cyclists but requires careful navigation.

For more experienced riders seeking challenges, there's an intricate network of longer paths that demand attention to safety measures.

It should be noted these routes can become quite rugged; therefore it's crucial to wear appropriate gear and stay hydrated.

Remember also the importance of respecting wildlife habitats while exploring on two wheels in this natural setting.

Birding
The park offers birding opportunities with a variety of species like warblers, sparrows and waterfowl. Birdwatchers can explore different habitats including woodland areas, grasslands and the reservoir shoreline. The migratory season brings additional diversity to spot rare birds such as Sandhill Cranes or Bald Eagles.

park review stars; one to five Went to camp and disc golf. Camping was great. This disc golf course needs some work. Need someone to come in and redo it. Has plenty of space to put in an 18 hole course where more people would come to play.
