A stand of tupelo (black gum) trees, rare at this latitude, can be seen in this 100-acre area, which offers a sweeping view of miles of white sand beaches between the Saco River and Pine Point.

Long before highways were common north of Boston, beaches provided travelers relatively safe and easy transportation routes. A ferry crossing at nearby Saco River served beach travelers, and thus Ferry Beach State Park received its name.

A picnic area, nature trails, guided nature programs, and changing room are available.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach from April 1st September 30th.

Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can enjoy a leisurely ride on the park's 1-mile nature trail. Be mindful of pedestrians.

The terrain is mostly flat, making it suitable for beginners or families with children. Always wear helmets.

Mountain bikes are not recommended due to the sandy and sometimes muddy conditions after rainfalls. Ride responsibly.

Please note that cycling isn't allowed in certain areas to protect wildlife habitats-observe posted signs diligently.

Remember: biking at night without proper lighting equipment could be dangerous; plan your rides during daylight hours only.

In summer months, hydration is crucial while riding under sun-soaked trees - carry plenty of water bottles along!

Lastly, always respect other visitors by maintaining appropriate speed and giving way when necessary - safety first!
Birding
The park offers birding enthusiasts a variety of habitats, including forests and marshes. It's home to numerous species like warblers during migration season. The Tupelo Trail is particularly popular for spotting birds due its dense vegetation cover.
