SAINT FRANCOIS STATE PARK
Saint Francois State Park, nestled in the St. Francois Mountains of Missouri, spans over 2,735 acres and offers a scenic retreat for nature enthusiasts. Opened to the public on May 27th, 1970, this park is characterized by its rugged hills and clear streams.
The main feature of Saint Francois State Park is the Big River which meanders through it providing opportunities for canoeing and fishing amidst lush forest scenery. The park boasts several trails including Pike Run Trail (10 miles) ideal for hiking or equestrian use; Mooner's Hollow Trail (3 miles), known for its challenging terrain; Swimming Deer Trail (3 miles); Turkey Ridge Loop (.75 mile). Campsites are available along with picnic areas making it perfect for family outings.
Visitors can explore unique geological formations such as Coonville Creek Natural Area within the park boundaries that showcase ancient sandstone bluffs and deep box canyons carved out over time by water erosion-testaments to Missouri's rich geologic history.
