BORN AND RAISED IN MEMPHIS, AS TEENAGERS WE RODE HORSES AT THE ORIGINAL STABLES ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE PARK AND IT WAS OFTEN A WEEKEND RETREAT FOR LOCAL KIDS TO SWIM AND HIKE.. AS A ADULT MY ORGANIZATION HAS ITS ANNUAL BAR-B-Q CONTEST AT THE GROUP CAMP IN MAY.. THIS HAS BEEN TRADITION FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS, SEE YOU THERE ON FRI OF THIS WEEK.THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RUN, MAINTAINED STATE PARKS IN TENN.PIERISOL GROUP CAMP IS A BLAST AND THE SIX PERSON CABINS ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE PARK ARE WELL ACOMMDATIED.

i first went here as a boy scout. we loved it. we went here, my wife and kids, when i married. i rode horses here while in college. it now has sad memories for me and my wife, which i will not go into.

I have recently started back to running and gettingmy carcass back in shape. I thought I would try something challenging and not the same ol road work. I went to Shelby forest and began running the hiking trails. FANTASTIC! lots of wildlife very few people. If you hav not been and you are an outdoors person you are missing out.

I have been hiking at Memman-Shelby Forest for over 30 years.... Great place to take our sweet doggies... Beautiful trails... Great birding... Nothing like it anywhere close by Memphis.... My black lab knows where we are going when we turn past the Shelby Forest General store! The area has a very special place in our hearts!

Shelby Forest provides miles of tree-shaded, low-traffic, paved roads for cyclists. The General Store makes for a great rest stop too.

I have been taking my dogs here for the last few months and have walked many of the trails. Beautiful trees, rolling hills along the bluffs, lots of wildlife. I an glad I ventured out this way, I will be spending much time here!

I love the hiking trails at Shelby Forest. Especially during fall(perfect weather for hiking)--it is a great place to get away from it all! Great exercise and great stress reliever.

September 1 3 stars Memphis Day Hike -Meeman Shelby

It is hard to find good hiking close to downtown Memphis. Shelby Farms has some pretty nice hikes and mountain biking trails in the Lucius Birch State Natural Area. But my favorite hike nearby is the Dogwood Trail in the park. It is a good length, has over looks into the forest, some ups and downs that can get your blood pumping and some nice wildlife if look around in the spring (daffodils, redbuds, dogwoods, trillium, etc.). Also very nice in the fall when the leaves are dropping. A shady summer hike, too.

May 22 Our Favorite Park by Michael & Jennifer

We just wanted everyone who is curious about this park to know how much we love it. There are many different lakes, hiking trails, activities and camp sites to choose from. We live locally and go to the park very often to cook out and fish. Just recently, we became engaged over the moon light while fishing! Be ready for a sunset you will never forget!
