WHITTEMORE GLEN STATE PARK
Whittemore Glen State Park is a haven for nature lovers. The park spans over 242 acres of forested land and offers hiking trails with stunning views. It's known for its diverse flora and fauna as well as the scenic Naugatuck River Valley that it overlooks. This state-managed public recreation area provides visitors an opportunity to engage in activities like bird watching, picnicking or simply enjoying the tranquility away from city life.

History of the Area
Located in Naugatuck, Connecticut, the park was established as a state property in 1944. It spans over 242 acres of land and is named after John Howard Whittemore who donated it to the state. The area offers various recreational activities including hiking trails with scenic views of nature's beauty.
Passes
Connecticut has made state parks, forests, trails, historic sites and beaches more accessible to our residents so they can enjoy the many attractions and beauty they offer. Under the Passport to the Parks program, parking fees are now eliminated at Connecticut State Parks for those with Connecticut registered vehicles. Trails
- Blue Trail: This is the longest trail in Whittemore Glen State Park, stretching approximately 6.2 miles. It offers a moderate hike with some steep sections and scenic views of Naugatuck Valley.

- Red Trail: A shorter route at around 3 miles long, this path provides an easier hiking experience suitable for beginners or those looking for a leisurely walk through mixed hardwood forests.

- Yellow Trail: Approximately 4-mile loop that takes hikers past several points of interest including old stone walls and foundations from early settlers' homes; moderately difficult due to rocky terrain and occasional inclines.

- Green Loop (North): At about two-and-a-half mile length, it's perfect for bird watchers as it passes by various habitats like wetlands and mature forest stands attracting diverse species throughout the year.

- Orange Pathway : Known as one of the most challenging trails within park boundaries because its roughly three-mile course includes multiple ascents over rugged hillsides covered with dense undergrowth; not recommended during rainy conditions due to slippery surfaces.

- White Connector Trails : These are short paths ranging between half-a-mile to one mile each which connect main routes allowing users customize their own hikes according duration or difficulty level desired ; they also provide access remote areas otherwise unreachable via primary tracks .

- Purple Access Route : Less than quarter-of-a-miles , primarily used reach starting point blue red yellow green orange white connector pathways parking lot entrance gate .

Directions from New Haven, Connecticut:
- Start on I-91 N.
- Take exit 17 for CT Route 15 toward Berlin Turnpike/I-691/Meriden/Waterbury.
- Keep right at the fork to continue towards CT Route 15N.
