Fishing
Located in Michigan, this park offers fishing opportunities for species like salmon and trout. Anglers can fish from the shore or a boat.

The waters are home to various types of bass including smallmouth and largemouth varieties.

Whitefish is another popular catch here, especially during winter months when ice-fishing becomes an option.

Fishing enthusiasts may also encounter northern pike, walleye, perch as well as several other freshwater species.

Remember that a valid Michigan fishing license is required before you cast your line into these abundant waters.

Picnicking
Straits State Park offers picnic tables, grills and a pavilion for picnicking with stunning views of the Mackinac Bridge.
Trails
A hiking trail runs through the park. One end, has a viewing platform with an overlook of the Straits of Mackinac and Mackinac Bridge. The other end has a different view of the Mackinac Bridge.

Trails in the park:

Straits-Main Trail - 1 (Miles), Hiking, Cross Country Ski
Bicycling
While exploring the area, biking enthusiasts can enjoy paved roads perfect for leisurely rides. Be mindful of vehicle traffic.

Off-road cycling is not recommended due to lack of designated trails and rough terrain conditions.

Ensure you wear a helmet at all times as safety should be your top priority during these activities.

Remember that bikes are prohibited on walking paths in order to maintain pedestrian safety within this recreational space.

Always respect nature by sticking to established routes; straying off path could harm local flora and fauna or cause accidents.

Nighttime bicycling isn't advised because lighting around the park's roadways is limited which may increase risk factor significantly.
Area Attractions
Mackinac Island is the featured attraction in the area located four miles across Lake Huron. There are three ferry lines servicing to the island. There are gift shops and restaurants in St. Ignace. Many campers leave their trailers at the park and make day trips up to Tahquamenon Falls (80 miles) and to the Soo Locks (50 miles). St. Ignace is known for its antique auto show on the last weekend in June and the Labor Day Bridge Walk held every Labor Day on the Mackinac Bridge. The nearest boat launch is in downtown St. Ignace, 1/2 mile away. Fishing is allowed on the shore of Lake Huron, with the best fishing located west of the Mackinac Bridge. The water is too shallow in front of the park for good shore fishing.
