Newaygo State Park is a 99-site rustic campground, which sits atop 20-foot embankments overlooking the Hardy Dam Pond, a six-mile flooding of the Muskegon River. The park caters primarily to campers, anglers and recreational boaters. There are several picnic sites overlooking the reservoir for day users. The campground is nestled in oak and poplar forests and is noted for its large, private sites and scenic beauty. There is a 20-30 foot forested buffer between sites, and each site is provided with a picnic table and a fire ring.
Passes
The Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into state parks and recreation areas, state boat launches, state forest campgrounds and state trail parking lots. Day-UseFishingyes
Swimming
1. Newaygo State Park offers a 935-acre lake for swimming.
2. There are no designated swim areas, so visitors can enjoy the water anywhere they like.
3. The park does not provide lifeguards; swimmers should exercise caution and safety measures.
4. Swimming is permitted during regular state park hours from 8 am to 10 pm daily.
5. Visitors often combine their swimming with boating or fishing activities on Hardy Dam Pond's waters.

Boating
The park's protected harbor and easy access to the Hardy Dam Pond attract many recreational boaters, water skiers and anglers each year. Water levels on the reservoir can be maintained at a high level in contrast to the declining water levels of the Great Lakes. The access site parking lot holds about 65 vehicle/ trailer combinations and alleviates traffic congestion on the park roads.
Fishing
The primary game fish are walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass. A wide variety of panfish are also available in the Muskegon River.

Location
Newaygo State Park is located near Big Rapids, Fremont and Newaygo

Picnicking
The park has two playground areas and a small beach for children and adults who wish to cool off from the summer heat. Two playground areas are provided.
Area Attractions
Anglers interested in the Great Lakes species can fish for trout and salmon downstream in the popular Croton Dam area, just 15 minutes south of the park. The nearby White Pine Trail State Park provides hiking and biking opportunities. With fall comes the beautiful color season, enhanced by spectacular views overlooking the Muskegon River.

April 23 Great park with lots to do. by Camper77
park review stars; one to five They just opened a disc golf course. Challenging but fun. The state park rents kayaks so you can troll around the Hardy Dam. It is a beautiful campground. I hope they add a bathroom building so we can stay longer.
