History of the Area
Located in the U.S. state of Oregon, this natural reserve was established as a public recreation area in 1953 and named after John Edward Harris, an influential figure who served on the State Highway Commission from 1941 to 1950.

The park is situated near Milton-Freewater city within Umatilla County and spans over approximately three acres. It's primarily used for picnicking with facilities such as tables and restrooms available for visitors' convenience.

Over time, it has become known not only among locals but also tourists due to its serene environment that offers relaxation away from urban life's hustle-bustle. Despite being one of Oregon's smaller parks, it continues to attract nature lovers seeking tranquility amidst greenery.

In recent years there have been efforts by local communities towards maintaining cleanliness at the site while ensuring preservation of its natural beauty so future generations can continue enjoying what Mr.Harris helped protect during his tenure on the highway commission.
