Located within Garrett State Forest in Garrett County, Herrington Manor State Park's development began in the 1930's with the aid of the Civilian Conservation Corps. A 53-acre lake was formed by damming Herrington Creek, and ten cabins were erected on a wooded knoll above the lake. Herrington Manor was designed as a state park in 1964, and encompasses 365 acres. The park offers swimming, boating in rowboats, canoes, paddle boats and aquacycles, picnicking, hiking, tennis, volleyball and 20 fully furnished log cabins for rental use year round. Interpretive programs are scheduled during the summer; and popular special events such as maple syrup demonstrations, apple butter making and cross country ski races are held throughout the year. This is a Maryland State Park. For full information go to the official webpage. (Link on the right side)

Picnicking
Herrington Manor State Park offers picnic tables, grills and pavilions. It also has a concession stand during the summer months.
Bicycling
In the heart of Maryland, a 365-acre recreational area offers several biking trails for outdoor enthusiasts. However, it's crucial to note that these paths vary in difficulty and terrain.

The park features an easy five-mile trail suitable for beginners or families with children. This path is mostly flat and winds through beautiful forest landscapes.

For more experienced cyclists seeking a challenge, there are also rugged mountain bike routes available within the park boundaries. These tracks can be steep at times so caution should always be exercised when navigating them.

Additionally, bikers must adhere strictly to designated pathways as off-trail cycling could damage sensitive ecosystems present throughout this natural reserve.

Remember: safety gear such as helmets is highly recommended while riding on any type of track due its potential risks involved during unexpected situations like falls or collisions

Lastly but importantly; respect other users' space by maintaining appropriate speed limits especially around pedestrians who might not anticipate your approach quickly enough if you're moving too fast!
Trails
The park offers 10 miles of trails into the adjoining state forest that are beginning to intermediate level. There is also a 5.5 mile trail that runs between Herrington Manor and Swallow Falls State Parks. The park trails are track-set when conditions allow.

A concession is open daily with restrooms, fireplace and tables. Snacks, gifts and ski rentals are available. Rental rates (including skis, boots and poles) are $15 per set per day, or $13 per half day. Snowshoes can be rented for $15 per day or $13 per half day. Sled rentals are available for $6 per day or $3 per half day. Rentals are available 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. when conditions allow good, safe skiing. Rental facilities are closed Christmas and New Year's Day. Full payment is required with each rental. Sets may not be taken off the park and forest property.
Birding
The park offers birdwatchers a variety of species, including warblers, thrushes and woodpeckers. There are also waterfowl in the lake area during migration seasons. Birding enthusiasts can explore several trails for different habitats or participate in organized bird walks led by experts.
