GEARY COUNTY STATE PARK
GEARY COUNTY STATE PARK
Acquisition: 282 acres were purchased in 1959 by the Forestry, Fish and Game Commission.

Area Description: The area is being used as a combination wildlife and fishing area. Shortly after the purchase, the creek was dammed and impounded approximately 97 acres of water. The balance of the 185 acres are in native tallgrass prairie and oak-hackberry uplands. During 1987 the lake was drawn down to upgrade the boat ramp and to establish brush pile fish attractors. The lake finally refilled in 1992 following five years of drought.
Fishing
You can enjoy fishing in two large lakes, offering species like largemouth bass, crappie and channel catfish. The smaller lake is stocked with trout during winter months. A valid Kansas fishing license is required for all anglers aged 16 or older.

Location
Geary County State Park is located near Fort Riley, Junction City

Picnicking
Geary County State Park offers numerous picnic areas with tables and grills, shaded spots, lake views, and nearby hiking trails.

May 26 A great close to home get away!!!! by Lisa
park review stars; one to five We love to camp and fish here, it is close to home and easy to get to. We always camp on the south end where the creek comes into the lake. There are lots of trees and a nice place to stay. On Sunday night the Sherriffs Office came out twice to check on us and make sure everyone was aware of the storms coming in and after the worst was past to make sure every one was o.k. The only things we would like to see is maybe a few more picnic tables at the south end of the lake, a dumpster somewhere to dispose of trash. We went out for the Memorial Day weekend. Friday night and came home on Monday morning between rain showers. Alot of people left Saturday after gettting rained on Friday night. When they left, they also left their trash. Very disapointing to see.
