History of the Area
Daniel Boone Memorial State Forest is located in the Missouri counties of Montgomery and Warren. It was established in 1956 as a tribute to the legendary frontiersman, Daniel Boone. The forest covers an area of approximately 3,080 acres.

Daniel Boone was a pioneer and explorer who played a significant role in the westward expansion of the United States during the late 18th century. While he is most famously associated with Kentucky, where he blazed the Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap, he also spent a considerable amount of time in Missouri.

The forest was named after Daniel Boone as a recognition of his contributions to exploring and settling the American frontier. It is a representation of the natural landscapes that Boone would have encountered during his time in Missouri.

The state forest contains a mix of hardwood forests, open grassy fields, and scenic hills. It provides several recreational opportunities, including hiking, picnicking, wildlife viewing, and hunting. There are several trails within the forest that offer visitors the chance to explore the natural beauty of the area.

In addition to its recreational offerings, the Daniel Boone Memorial State Forest also serves as a valuable site for resource conservation and management. It helps protect the watershed and provides habitat for a variety of wildlife species, including deer, turkey, and numerous bird species.

The establishment of Daniel Boone Memorial State Forest is a testament to the enduring legacy of Daniel Boone as a historic figure and his influence on the development of the American West.
