Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1980 to protect critical breeding and nesting areas for wildlife, American crocodile and endangered others. The refuge is located in north Key Largo and is currently composed of 6,700 hectares, 650 hectares of open water. Contains a mosaic of habitat types including tropical hardwood hammocks, mangroves and marshes.
