Decent campground with all sites being electric and some full hook up. We were in a tent, and found the sites in the paw paw loop to be too close together. In addition, the shower house in the paw paw loop did not have hot water and the shower only stayed on for 5 seconds at a time. The main loop shower house was nice with hot water. We were told the campstore was open 8-4, so we tried to go at 230 on a Saturday and they were already closed. Also tried to go at 10am on Monday and 930am on Tuesday..also closed. Firewood and ice available at campground gate. Very nice trails to hike with Rose Island being a definite must see. If you closely on the trails, you can find remnants of old buildings.
February 26 One of my favorite parks.
May 13 Be aware of deer ticks
We recently camped in the park(our first visit)and found that the area in the campsites had not been mowed, the tick infestation was so terrible that we could not sit outside without multiple ticks getting on us , even with the use of personal spray. It was so bad that we left one day early. We were in a campsite with full hookups and was a fairly expensive venture. We also noticed when we arrived on Thursday the dumpsters were over-flowing with trash. They were not emptied until on a Friday night or Sat. We did enjoy the paved trails otherwise we were very dissapointed. With proper maintenance this could be a very nice campground.
October 4 First Time visit by Randy
Walked the trail by the river. Very quiet and peaceful. Neat cliffs and rock ledges. Several other trails available. Saw some old remenats of the old Charlestown Landing. Relax and watch the river traffic go by from either one of two viewing vistas on the river bank. Lots of parking and a boat launch. One trail was closed due to construction. Several old train cars left to rot. Great photo op.
June 8 Still a young park by Matthew
Charlestown State Park camping area lacks wooded lots as it is still very young. However they have full hookups and nice showering facilities. They have a few nice trails that are not to challenging. This is a good option to let the kids play and typically quiet with lots of free lots.
